VIDEO | 7-year-old super shoveler Britney Bohn

March 27, 2021 – Slinger, WI – Britney Bohn, 7, knows the definition of the word ‘perseverance,’ she also knows how to put it into action. The second grader from Addison Elementary School accepted a challenge this past winter as part of the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast to clear snow away from fire hydrants.

Bohn took the “Adopt a Hydrant” initiative to the next level as she shoveled fire hydrants on a mile-and-a-half stretch of her street. “I shoveled 72,” said Bohn. “And I won.”

The coveted prize was a ride home from school on a fire truck from the Slinger Fire Department.

Bohn cleared between six and 10 hydrants every snowstorm. Seeing her with her plastic orange kiddie shovel inspired others in the community to dig out hydrants in their yards too.

Because of her dedication Bohn was awarded a CEO patch and a certificate of commendation from Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast.
