Jan. 3, 2019 – Dodge Co., WI – At about 2:06 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1, 2019, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a report of damage to a house on County Road W near Hemlock Road in the Town of Trenton from bullets fired from an unknown location.
Investigation revealed the shots were fired from the west and struck the front window of the home, as well a shed and a pickup truck inside the shed.
Investigation continues into this incident and the Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying who may have fired the shots. It is unknown at this time if this was an accidental shooting from a nearby residence or field or if this was an intentional act. Anyone having information regarding this incident should contact Sheriff Dale Schmidt.
At 2:47 a.m. there was an additional report of shots being fired several miles north of this location on Buckhorn Road near County Road C in which gun fire was heard. The area was checked and nothing was found upon arrival. Since that time there has been no reported damages in that area. It is not clear at this time if these two incidents are related, but it is certainly being looked into as part of the original investigation on County Road W.
No one was injured as a result of this incident. However, this is a significant reminder that when shooting firearms, it is important to always know your target and beyond as the person who fires the shots is ultimately responsible for where those rounds go. This could very easily have turned into tragedy had those rounds struck someone inside the home.
Questions may be directed to Sheriff Dale J Schmidt.
