Jan. 14, 2019 – Dodge Co., WI – The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has recently been made aware that scammers are using the name of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office to scam residents. The scam is initiated by telling the victim that there is a warrant for their arrest and they need to report to the Dodge County Jail to pay a bond. The number that was used in the scam was 920-386-3320.
This is not a valid sheriff’s office phone number and we ask that you not respond to these types of scare tactics. If you have a question about the validity of a phone call, please hang up and contact the sheriff’s office or your local police department through a phone number that is published in the phone book or on an official website of that agency.
Sheriff Dale Schmidt called the number and it took him to a phone tree which does not belong to the sheriff’s office. He pressed one of the options and was transferred to a male subject. The Sheriff asked the person’s name and he refused to give it. When the Sheriff identified himself to the scammer, the scammer hung up. Sheriff Schmidt called the number back and got the same person. The scammer immediately began swearing at the Sheriff and told him to leave him along while he was at his job. After a short exchange and directive that he shall not use the name of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, the scammer hung up again. Since then, no additional contact has been able to be made with the suspected scammer.
If you have been victimized by this scam and paid money to scammers, we ask that you please contact the actual sheriff’s office at 920-386-3726 and report it to a deputy. If you have not paid money and would like more information or would like to report your scam to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, visit one of the following websites:
