October 26, 2023 – Fond du Lac Co., WI – Please be aware the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department recently took a scam report from a concerned citizen who received a call and voicemail from an individual identifying themself as a sergeant from the Sheriff’s Office.
This scammer requested a call back to discuss “legal matters.” The scammer utilized a retired deputy’s name and also spoofed the non-emergency phone number to aid in his deception.
If something seems off, there is a good chance it’s a scam. Sheriff’s deputies commonly reach out and call citizens for follow up reasons but are generally more specific about what they wish to speak about.
