Macy Sabish of Kewaskum awarded $5,000 Mlodzik Family scholarship

Kewaskum, WI – Kewaskum High School Senior Macy Sabish was recently awarded the 6th annual Don and Corrine Mlodzik Family Scholarship.

Sabish plans to attend Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL, to major in Political Science. Academically Sabish has a stellar 4.0 GPA and is a two-year member of the National Honor Society. Athletically, Sabish is a 2-year 2nd team all-conference recipient, along with a 1st team award, conference player of the year award, and all district award recipient.

In addition, Sabish is a member of 10 different clubs and activities and holds leadership positions in six of them. Volunteerism is very important to the Mlodzik family, and it must be noted Sabish completed about 150 hours of volunteer service in her last two years of high school.

Political science was Sabish’s undergrad choice not only because it will help her become a lawyer, but also because she finds politics interesting. “There is so much that goes into the political views of another from their upbringing and environment to personal experiences. There is something very noble in caring about your government and being civically active to influence and change things you care about,” she said.

“My Grandpa always made sure I knew how blessed I was to be born into a country where my freedom was guaranteed, and studying political science and understanding the inner workings of politics and our government was fueled by the beliefs and values he instilled in me.”

KHS National Honor Society Advisor and Social Studies teacher Luke Piwoni spoke very highly of Macy.

“As a teacher, coach and advisor I have been able to learn about many students both in and out of the classroom. Macy is a tireless worker, cares deeply about others and is one of the best Kewaskum High School has to offer.

“She is simply an exceptional person and will excel at whatever she does in the
future. I know Macy will have a profound impact on whoever she comes in contact with. Wherever she goes she makes it a better place.”

The Mlodzik family offers their congratulations to Macy Sabish and wishes her well in her academic journey and pursuit of a fulfilling career in law. “It is a pleasure to lighten the financial burden of education for someone who comes so highly recommended” said Gary Mlodzik, son of Don and Corrine Mlodzik.

He attended this class for the entire school year, two hours a day. As a senior, Loehr is using his prior construction experience and working toward completion of the Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship Program in the construction-architecture pathway.
Loehr worked five hours each morning for C.D. Smith Construction Company and then goes to school for the rest of the day. He worked summers as a construction laborer as well. He finds the work very rewarding as he loves to work with his hands and expressed that each day brings a new experience.
When asked why he was the best candidate to receive this scholarship, Loehr said, “I would greatly appreciate being chosen for this grant to help me continue to pursue my future goals and even be able to give back someday to help others achieve their goals and dreams.”
While there were several very qualified candidates for this year’s scholarship, the desire to help others made Loehr stand out. Tina Mlodzik, daughter-in-law of Don and Corrine Mlodzik, said, “As a family, we believe that helping others achieve their goals and dreams is of the utmost importance.”
Tina’s husband Gary added “Sharing your knowledge, network of contacts and financial resources is vital to the success of future generations and our family sees it as a blessing to be able to do so. Austin recognizing that he’ll have the opportunity to give back in the same fashion made him stand out.”
According to KHS staffer Michael Prochnow, Loehr has always challenged himself academically. He has taken nearly every industrial arts class offered and found success in all of them.
Outside of the classroom Loehr excelled in extracurricular activities. He was a four-year varsity letterman for the soccer team, and a three-year varsity letterman for the baseball team, as well as being involved in the ski and snowboard club.
Loehr has served local communities by volunteering many hours through the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Project (SHP) through C.D. Smith. While volunteering he contributed in multiple ways but mainly by building beds for children who do not have a bed to sleep in.
The Mlodzik family offers its congratulations to Austin and wishes him well on his educational and career journeys.
