May 31, 2024 – Hartford, WI – Richard John Schmitt, “Sparx,” 66, of Hartford, Wisconsin was born into Eternal Life, Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Richard was born February 28, 1958 in Hartford, WI to Gib and Rosie Schmitt. He was united in marriage to Lauri Nelson on October 16, 1982.
Richard loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, and going to the cottage. He also loved spending time with family and friends. Richard worked as a chef at the Fox & Hounds and then Ankerstein Builders until retiring at the age of 65.
Loving husband of Lauri Schmitt; beloved father of Nick (Mel) and Jesse (Lauren) Schmitt; proud grandfather of Destiny, Chase, and Ada; dear brother of Dennis (Cindy), Patricia (Manny) Tamayo, Ralph (Darcy), Fred (Rosemary), Philip (Lisa), Carolyn (Rob) Connolly, and Jenny (Gary) Feiner; and brother-in-law of Jim Schnorenberg and Kathy Schmitt. He is further survived by parents-in-law, Phyllis Doherty and Dennis (Dee) Nelson, sister-in-law, Shelley (Craig) Capelle, among other loved relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Gib and Rosie and his siblings, Mike Schmitt and Sue Schnorenberg.
A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Hartford Senior Center, 730 Highland Avenue, Hartford, WI 53027. Private burial will be held at a later date for immediate family.
