July 31, 2020 – Slinger, WI – Following Governor Tony Evers’ Executive Order of a statewide face mask mandate, State Representative Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) released the following statement:
“I was infuriated earlier today when Governor Evers issued Executive Order #82, a statewide mask mandate effective this Saturday, August 1. Once again, Governor Evers circumvented the legislative branch with this unilateral order. The vast majority of my constituents who have contacted my office today are strongly opposed to the most recent flip-flop decision from Governor Evers and his administration.
The fact that this new ordinance just happens to take effect the same day as newly elected liberal Justice Karofsky assumes her role on the Wisconsin Supreme Court seems to be purely political.
While we need to take responsible steps to protect the health of Wisconsinites, a statewide mask mandate with a $200 penalty during these times of economic hardship is not the answer. Local governments across the state have responded appropriately with decisions they feel are in the best interest of their unique populations.
I have always, and will continue to support local governments and their efforts to doing what is best for their communities as opposed to the Evers’ one-size-fits-all approach. I do not support this mandate.
Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis issued a statement Thursday, July 30, 2020 regarding his decision on enforcing the mask mandate. Click HERE for more information.
