Governor Walker signed two bills into law protecting taxpayer dollars from flowing to abortion providers and from being abused via Medicaid overbilling.
Act 151 (AB 310) redirects federal Title X funds away from organizations that provide abortions, like Planned Parenthood. Act 152 (SB 238) stops abortion providers from overbilling state taxpayers for discounted drugs that they purchase through Medicaid.
A 2014 audit by DHS’ OIG found examples of gross overbilling by “family planning clinics” for birth control drugs. This bill could save the state as much as $4.5 million per year by requiring the actual cost of a drug be billed when receiving reimbursement through Medicaid.
In response, Rep. Jesse Kremer (R-Kewaskum) issued the following statement:
“As a co-sponsor of both of these bills, I am thrilled to see them become law today. Wisconsin taxpayers should not be forced to fund, in any way, the despicable practice of abortion; nor should they be forced to watch as their hard earned dollars are squandered by overbilling for already discounted drugs.”
