August 10, 2017 – Barton, WI – Neighbors in West Bend and Kewaskum are keeping a close eye on construction on County Trunk Highway D.
The road seems to be nearly finished. Contractors have been working since May 23 on a segment that runs from the Highway 45 northbound ramps to Green Tree Road.
The project also includes removing and replacing the concrete segment between USH 45 and Lighthouse Lane.
There was some grousing last week as business owners and neighbors in the area saw zero work being done.
Washington County Highway Commissioner Scott Schmidt said the general contractor hires out certain jobs like landscaping and striping. Apparently the crew responsible for putting in the guardrail is out of Sun Prairie. They got delayed last week when their vehicle broke down as they were headed to the job site.
Schmidt said another delay may happen today as striping is supposed to be laid down. But, he said, if the weather is rainy then that’s going to be delayed another day.
Folks in Barton had hoped the road would be open in time for Saturday’s Barton Day.
Schmidt said the weather will be a big factor on if they can open the road before the weekend.
According to accuweather.com there could be a brief shower at 8 a.m. and then another around 3 p.m. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy with a shower or heavy thunderstorm; thunderstorms may bring hail and damaging winds.
According to the deadline County Trunk D has to be open by Monday, August 14.
We’ll keep you posted.
