April 17, 2020 – Slinger, WI – To say that I am frustrated with Governor Evers decision to extend the “Safe at Home” order until May 26 is an understatement. With zero consultation from any members of the Wisconsin Legislature, Governor Evers unilaterally decreed that he would extend this health emergency order.
This would keep small businesses and local restaurants shut down, cancel the rest of the school year for students, continue the suspension of church services, and perpetuate serious economic hardship onto hardworking employers and employees in our state.
The Evers’ Administration has yet to specifically identify the metrics and clearly explain what they are waiting for in order for us to return back to our normal lives.
Protecting the health and safety of my constituents is my number one priority, but we can do that without inflicting irreparable and devastating economic damage to our state. I have been working with my Republican colleagues in the State Assembly and State Senate to challenge the egregious overreaching practices of the Evers’ Administration with legislative, legal and commonsense approaches to this situation.
During the press conference Governor Evers’ administration at the same time celebrated the health improvements made by flattening the curve in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Wisconsin.
He can’t have it both ways. The economic repercussions from the decisions of Governor Evers’ are dire and consequential.
Local entrepreneurs have spent their lives building their businesses from the ground up. I will not stand by and watch Governor Evers decimate thousands of family’s livelihoodsthrough an ill-informed and needless attack on hard-working Wisconsinites and their families in the name of public health.
I assure you that I am doing everything in my power to responsibly REOPEN WISCONSIN FOR BUSINESS!
Rick Gundrum
State Representative
58th Assembly District
Hey Rick, unless the Republicans actually can come up with a real plan that controls the spread of COVID while helping businesses survive, just constantly complaining about Evers does nothing.
Ummm Jerry , the Republicans have been wanting to sit and meet with the clown Governor but he refuses to listen to any of them. The clown Governor has no plan himself which is why he continues to extend the shutdown.
I love n miss our local businesses! We’ll all help them when WE come back from this!
The Governor is doing the right thing!
Hey Connie, apparently you are not a business owner since you are totally clueless what this useless Governor’s shutdown is doing to this state.
Furlough government employees. Things will open up really quick once those making these decisions have to pay the price too.
Open the state up.Get back to a normal situation
The people are aware of the situation and the virus as to how potent and dangerous it can be.
Let us have our freedom, and manage it ourselves.
Most of us will be very cautious. We have been lectured enough. Our governor has no rhyme or reason to extend this. Many of us need health care
For different situations and can’t get any help.
This situation is being carried to extreme.
Because of this very long duration of the virus. The Governor has shut down both of my businesses. But the addition of another month and a half we now have to close my wife’s shop for we cannot continue with money lost. The SBA and PPP program is out of funds for small businesses. Please in our behalf intercede with this situation. Businesses must reopen. Thank you
People need to be allowed to work, pay their bills, and salvage their businesses if they still can be salvaged. The government won’t be able to support all of the people it’s put on unemployment, yet it’s taken many peoples’ livelihoods away from them. People who are concerned about susceptibility to the virus have many options for precaution open to them, including self-isolating, having groceries delivered to their homes, working from home, and supporting their immune systems with a healthy diet and nutritional supplements. I’ve read that intravenous vitamin c has been used in China for people who were ill with covid 19 with good results. For people living in nursing homes, maybe the employees should also take more precautions so that there’s less chance of passing it on to one of the residents. People now need to be allowed to live their lives, see their friends, visit their grandmas and grandpas if the grandparents are comfortable with that and be given the right to earn their livings.
