December 20, 2021 – West Bend, Wi – It was December 12, 2021 when WashingtonCountyInsider.com ran a story about the pending sale of the former Shopko building on 1710 S. Main Street in West Bend, WI.
That sale came to fruition on Friday, December 17, 2021.
The buyer is Corta Development of Florida.
Corta Development is a “Commercial Retail development and redevelopment firm serving national tenants and brands.”
Cory Presnick is Principal at Corta Development. “We have a vision for the property,” he said. “We’ve done similar projects in Sheboygan and Fond du Lac so it will be something similar in nature with redevelopment.”
Presnick said they do not plan on razing the building. “Our intent right now is to look at the numbers with commercial retail,” he said. “At this point we’re hopeful to reuse this building and that will be the most economical way to make the project investible.”
There is no timeline on what tenants will be leasing the space. Presnick said it will be a “national tenant.”
“Right now, our hands are tied but we will make the announcement when we can,” he said.
In Fond du Lac, WI Corta Development purchased the former Shopko building and it will be split with Big Lots, Inc. on the east end and Hobby Lobby taking up a majority of the property with a Taco John’s being constructed in the out lot.
In Sheboygan, the former Shopko was purchased by Corta Development and that will be home to Hobby Lobby and Ross Dress for Less.
Presnick said the Shopko property in West Bend, WI was inviting because of the endcaps; Hobby Lobby and Kohl’s and he liked the location of Meijer grocery. “We have a lot of frontage on Main Street,” he said. “We like the opportunity to redevelop the box and the outparcel development.”
The Shopko store closed in West Bend, April 15, 2019, as the national retailer, based in Green Bay, WI, filed bankruptcy.
Since then, the location, 1710 S. Main Street, in West Bend has been for sale. It had randomly been leased by the seasonal Halloween store, but generally sat empty.
Corta Development paid $2,025,000 for the property.

“We’re certainly looking to redevelop it into a first-class project,” said Presnick.

What retailer would you like to see fill the spot at 1) former Shopko location or 2) former Boston Store/Elder-Beerman?
Definitely not Big Lots
A Target!!!
Definitely a target!
Red Lobster!
Target in shopko building, and macys in Boston store.
Why not make it the biggest good will store in wi Ron from wb
Why not a Five Below and Sonic
Target, Scheels, in Shopko.
Macys in Boston Store
TARGET & RED LOBSTER!!!
Target
Target
Target!!!
TARGET. WB NEEDS ONE !!!!
Target for Shopko property. It most likely will be demolished and rebuilt for a Target. As for the old Boston Store, a discount retailer. That store is to small for a Von Maur or any other department store.
Trader Joe’s…PLEASE!!!!!
TARGET. !!!!!!!!
A BIG drive-through/dine-in Portillos!!!!!!!
Target! Trader Joe’s.
HomeGoods
Yes a Target would be awesome!!!
Yes , I’m with the rest on TARGET, THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!##
I second Trader Joe’s. But obviously that would be a shared spot so I don’t know what else.
Macys doesnt buy things people actually want to buy. The juniors dept has been non existent for years. Been there several times since summer and theres not one thing in Women’s or juniors id buy
Make it a mini mall with multiple retailers
How about a Target and a Festival foods?
Target; Home Goods; Ulta; TJ Maxx
Target
Joann Fabrics superstore
Best buy, target, golden corral resturaunt, olive garden, Mac’s Mac and cheese restaurant, mega media xchange, p.f. changs restaurant, love sac, Dave and busters restaurant, krispy Kreme restaurant.
At Home and Joann Fabric
I was gonna say olive garden
Target seems like a no-brainer.
Please please please Festival Foods. We can then adios to pick n save ( that store is filthy)!
Why Not an Olive Garden
Joanne Fabric
Yes a Target or Trader Joe’s would be Awsome
Target would be nice for all household needs; Ulta for makeup, salon care and girly girl needs; Home Goods would be excellent because it has a little of everything; and I think JoAnn Fabrics would conflict with Hobby Lobby, and PLEASE do not put in another fast food restaurant in this town! My suggestion, put in a nice breakfast restaurant that’s what this town needs.
The city needs Target.
There is but one place to buy ladies clothes in WB…we desperately need a department store like Boston was. And it seems like the majority of responders want a Target and DONT want another restaurant.
Home Goods is certainly a step above Marshall’s in quality and selection. But Target has a little bit of everything.
Maybe expand into the parking lot…it’s never been full of cars even at holiday shopping time. Maybe put a breakfast place there, next to a lunch place and a speciality shop for kitchen/cookware? Just daydreaming.
Oh well🤔.
How about a women’s boutique, Portillo’s, a logistics company warehouse, and Dillard’s. Macy’s outlet store, Dick’s sporting goods, an indoor ice rink, climbing wall, and pickle ball courts.
We do not need a Target with their terrible clothes. We have enough of that with Marshalls and Mejiers.
