Brewers Day…On April 4, the Milwaukee Brewers begin another season against the SF Giants (HA
grad Ryan Rohlinger played for them). The Student Council has declared the day as Milwaukee Brewers Day
at HA and invites students to show their support by wearing their Brewers colors or gear! Hats are allowed to
be worn (as long as they support the Brew Crew!) Please note that this is the first day back from the Easter
Break.
Bike-to-School Day…Mark your calendar and hope that the snow has all melted (let’s hope!): May is National
Bike Month and the Bike Friendly West Bend committee is sponsoring a Bike-to-School Day on
Wednesday, May 4th. Holy Angels has an ample number of spaces on the bike rack and each rider will receive
a goodie bag filled with bike swag and more. After the Easter Break, a survey will go out so that the
planning committee can prepare enough bags for the Holy Angels Bikers (not to be confused with the HOG).
School Supplies…The School Committee has been looking into providing parents with an option for purchasing
back-to school supplies. An area company, School-Pak provides parents with a one-stop option for
getting a student ready for a new school year. The company uses the Holy Angels Supply List to put together
a package of required school supplies for each grade. Parents then place a single order for the items on the
list. More information will be sent home after the Easter Break to determine whether there is enough interest
to offer this option.
Chess Tourney…The annual Holy Angels Chess Tournament will be held after the Easter Break. The
members of the Chess Team have been practicing for several week in two divisions: Mighty Rooks and Good
Knights. On April 12th and 14th, members will vie for the titles of Grand Master and Master through pool play
and final pairings. Thanks to Paul Myers (with some assistance from HA grad Liesel Myers) for coordinating
this year’s program!.
Earth Day Planting…This year, Holy Angels will be hosting the local Arbor Day celebration on Friday,
April 22nd, at 1:30pm. The program will begin in the gym with a program about the importance of trees in the
environment, including a game show of Tree-vial Pursuit. The city tree, Autumn Blaze Freeman Maple, will be
planted on the parish grounds.
Loyalty Day…The annual Loyalty Day observance will be held on Friday, April 29th, to start the school
day. Members of the VFW Post 1393 will be on hand to post the colors and provide inspiration regarding the
special day which was created to reflect on the importance of loyalty to country and the community. John
Kleinmaus is the commander of the Fred A. Schaefer Post and will serve as the emcee.
Recycle Day…The semi-annual Washington County Clean Sweep Program is coming on May 7 at the
Slinger Highway Shop (314 W. Washington St—Hwy 175, Slinger). This is an opportunity to properly dispose
and/or recycle hazardous waste, electronics, appliances, medications and tires. For more information, go to
their website: www.co.washington.wi.us/cleansweep
