Nov. 1, 2016 – Farmington, WI – During any election year it is not uncommon for Washington County law enforcement to investigate complaints of election sign tampering and theft.
These types of investigations seem to develop during any heated election ranging from local to national. Under §12.13(3)(h) there is specific language that deals with defacing, destroying or removing any legally placed election campaign advertising poster with intent to disrupt the campaign effort.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office values the rights of individuals to express their political beliefs consistent with the law. It matters not to us what those specific political views are.
The Sheriff’s Office investigated a damaged political sign in the area of Highway 144 and Bolton Drive in the Town of Farmington Friday (10/21). The sign was knocked down and stomped on.
