Update on arrest tied to suspicious death investigation | By Fond du Lac Police

February 15, 2024 – Fond du Lac, WI –  The circumstances surrounding the death of Ashley Ann Calo are now being considered a homicide by Fond du Lac Police. On Wednesday, February 14, 2024 the Fond du Lac Police Department made an arrest in the alleged homicide case of Calo which occurred following a crash on February 13, 2024.

According to police, Annika Winter Trudell of Fond du Lac was arrested on charges of First-Degree Reckless Homicide in connection to the death of Calo.  Trudell is currently being held at the Fond du Lac County jail.
FDLPD also arrested a 21-year-old Fond du Lac male for Harboring or Aiding a Felon.
There is still a significant amount of follow-up to do. The Fond du Lac Medical Examiner’s Office also will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

February 14, 2024 – Fond du Lac, Wi –  On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, police in Fond du Lac responded to a car crash where the driver was dead and a 3-year-old was unharmed in the passenger seat. Police deemed the death “suspicious.”

On Wednesday afternoon, February 14, 2024, with the assistance of the City of West Bend Police Department, Annaka Winter Trudell was taken into custody without incident in West Bend (WI).

February 13, 2024 – Fond du Lac, WI – On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at approximately 6:23 p.m., the City of Fond du Lac Police Department and Fire/Rescue responded to the area of W. Follett Street and N. Main Street for a single vehicle crash. The vehicle ended up striking landscaping bricks and came to a rest sitting atop a cluster of bushes.

FDLPD Officers responded and located a 33-year-old female slumped over and unresponsive inside the vehicle. FDLPD Officers extricated the female and performed life-saving efforts until Fire/Rescue paramedics arrived. FDLPD Officers also learned that a 3-year-old child was a passenger in the vehicle.

The City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue transported the female to SSM Health (St. Agnes Hospital) with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics also checked out the child and noted no injuries from the crash. The 33-year-old female was later pronounced deceased while at the hospital.
FDLPD Detectives responded to the scene. The investigation into the circumstances that led up to the death of the 33-year-old female is active and ongoing at this time. The Fond du Lac Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death. The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time, pending family notification(s).
The investigation into this crash is at the preliminary stages and remains under active investigation. No further details or information are being released at this time.
The City of Fond du Lac Police Department was assisted by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue.
