Police situation ends in Kewaskum | By Police Chief Thomas F. Bishop

August 24, 2020 – Kewaskum, WI – On August 24, 2020, at approximately 2:43 p.m., Kewaskum Police Officers located a person in River Hill Park who had made suicidal statements earlier in the day. The person was armed with a handgun.

In order to keep everyone in the area safe, River Hill Park, the Eisenbaun Trail, Riverview Drive, Parkview Drive and Main Street were all closed until the event was concluded.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, as well as the West Bend Police Department’s SWAT Team, were requested to assist with the situation.

Multiple SWAT teams were requested due to the high temperatures experienced at that time. A dialogue took place between officers and the individual for over 2 ½ hours before the person decided to end his own life.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has been requested to conduct the investigation as an outside agency who was not present at the incident.

The Kewaskum Police Department was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, West Bend Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Kewaskum Fire Department, Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.

No further information will be release.
