May 21, 2021 – Newburg, WI – Some excitement for Wayne Seideman while he was out mowin lawn Friday morning. “Plane landed in the field,” he said nonchalantly. “You comin to the big reunion this year... think it’s our 88th.”
The pilot of the plane, Vincent Duncan Callender, said he took off from Chicago this morning. “I started having engine trouble north of Milwaukee,” he said. “I tried to make it to the West Bend Airport but put it down in the field.”
Duncan Callender said the field looked good because there were no power lines and the ground didn’t appear soft.
“I wasn’t hurt and once I get the engine fixed and the investigation is done I should be able to fly again,” he said.
Duncan Callender has been a pilot for four years. He was headed to Manitowoc when the plane went down just after 10:30 a.m.
Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis said the NTSB and FAA will investigate.
The annual Seideman family reunion is the third Sunday in July at the farm off Newark and Shady Lane Road .
