Pileated woodpecker spotted at Riveredge Nature Center in Newburg

April 18, 2017 – Newburg, WI – Take a look a the pileated woodpecker that few into Riveredge Nature Center today. The photo was posted on the Riveredge’s Twitter account.

It was in August last year when a similar looking big bird was spotted in the lot south of Badger School on Sixth Avenue.  On a side note…

On a side note: The pileated woodpecker is the bird Woody Woodpecker was based on.

The black and white bird with a red head is as big as a cat. According to my neighbor Peachy Keehn, this is a pretty rare sight in town.

  1. Regarding the large woodpecker. We saw that bird in our yeard in the City of West Bend about 2 weeks ago. It is huge. I would say about 15inches tall.
