West Bend, WI – Paper or plastic? When we think of our food sources, a lot of people don’t really consider where it comes from, but we do. It’s important to keep in mind local, farm raised, high-quality and tasty meat products. Knowing where your meat comes from helps promote better health, a cleaner environment, and a stronger local economy.
My daughter Jillian and I from Schmidt Century Farm in West Bend, Wi, recently attended a Show Pig symposium in the Wisconsin Dells.

Eighty-five youth and adults were in attendance with high anticipation for the upcoming Wisconsin Show Pig season, including us.
The Wisconsin Show Pig Association and the Wisconsin Pork Association, hosts of the symposium, have worked hard to team up and bring the show pigs and production pigs together.
Schmidt Century Farm in West Bend is focused on production pigs. These pigs are all about the meat and not about the show, at least for now.
If you didn’t know, the two opposite ventures are quite common in the livestock industry.
The show pig people get the reputation of being all about the “look” and current trends that change frequently. Show pigs spend a lot of time on the road going from show to show and are exposed to many other pigs and people.
Production farmers worry these pigs increase disease risks to their pigs. Having said that, we all love our pigs. Production pigs and show pigs are so important to all of us.
While Roger Schmidt works daily to keep our production pigs healthy and well-fed to bring to your table, our kids Jillian and Rodee work hard to keep their show pigs healthy, happy and beautiful.
We are looking forward to the Wisconsin Show pig jackpot series this year. We are also committed to providing you with the highest quality, best tasting pork to fill your freezer.
Know your farmer, know your food at Schmidt Century Farm.
