May 18, 1010 – Hartford, WI -Ron Schnorenberg, Commander of VFW Hartford Post 8834, submitted photos below of the Avenue of Flags which originated in front of the VFW Hall along Woodlawn Park in Hartford.
“When the VFW Post 8834 sold the Hall, we worked with the city to have Pathways paved in the small park, Sawyer Park, just south of the main intersection,” said Schnorenberg.
Then we installed over 75 sleeves along the pathway. The three Veteran’s groups put the flags up on holidays. They are all coffin flags embroidered with the name of the deceased Veteran, branch of service and when they served.
Stacy Lesmeister submitted the photos below of Hartford’s Sawyer Park, where local VFW members put veteran funeral flags up in remembrance of Armed Forces Day. This is done several times a year including Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Armed Forces Day, etc.
Volunteers put up flags across downtown West Bend as part of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 16.
