Remembering photo day at school – Can you identify this young farmer/educator/nurse

Washington Co, WI – As the school year gets underway across Washington County, Wi, we kickoff our annual post to see if you can identify the community leader by their old-school photo. The pictures are a treasured timepiece and a rite of passage. Do you recognize this young farm girl? She’s still very active on the 4H scene.
Can you identify the little tyke below. Keith ‘Peachy’ Keehn made friends in the military before working for the electric company. He was a familiar sight at Buckskinner encampments and if he brought his mandolin along, he’d accept requests to sign a tune or two with Big Cedar Bluegrass.

Yesterday’s photo was submitted with the message, “Once a cowboy girl, always a cowboy girl.” The community leader who has a passion for horses, the arts, and is a strong supporter of the local baseball scene is none other than Prudy Pick Hway.

This young cowgirl is also featured in the class photos from McLane School. Can you pick her out?
The photo below is of a very young grocer who may be celebrating another year around the sun. Stefanie Ulma is owner of Green Dog Market on N. Main Street in West Bend, WI. Prior to that neighbors may remember her as owner of Grasshopper Restaurant or Sawmill Inn.

It would be interesting to see if there is organic or homemade healthy cake available at this N. Main Street market.
This young guy is a hot topic this week. His love of ties is part of his image today. Ray Stelzer is half of the Scoop DeVille team in Hartford, Wi. Ray and his wife Carrie are retiring after 15 years at the ice cream shop on Main Street. Their last day behind the counter will be September 3, 2024, when the new owners take over.

Many people correctly identified the young rascal below. Roman Weninger was even called out for his grade-school photo during this week’s Slinger School Board meeting. Weninger is president of the Slinger School Board, and he is best known as the face and voice and boss at 5 Corners Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Cedarburg.

Play along and see if you can guess some of the local community leaders and business owners of today.

Can you name someone you recognize in this vintage photo?

If you’re looking for another clue for today’s cover photo – this community leader values education, especially in the Slinger School District.

A classic submitted by a mom who thinks it’s adorable.

A big sister who hated the dress said, “If the wind caught your collar, you could be like the Flying Nun.”

History note: The Flying Nun was a popular TV show in the late 1960s where a young nun in full habit, Sally Field, would fly if the wind caught her head piece/cornette. It was a very madcap and popular show.

PS: We were very Catholic; my mom liked the Flying Nun, and it was regular TV viewing in the Steffes household.

PSS: Although very Catholic my mom also LOVED Archie Bunker and All in the Family. However, we were NEVER allowed to watch that show and often found ourselves with an early bedtime when it came on the black and white.
