Pets perish in Hartford, WI house fire | By Captain Tim Holzhauer

October 11, 2024 – Hartford, WI – A number of pets died following a house fire on Cedar Street in Hartford, WI, on Thursday afternoon.

Fire Incident on Cedar St.
Hartford, WI –At 5:09 p.m. on October 10, 2024, Hartford Fire & Rescue responded to Cedar Street for heavy smoke from the house. Upon arrival, the first arriving unit found heavy smoke coming from all four corners of the home’s roof line. Interior crews located the fire on the first floor towards the rear of the home.

 

The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 mins. Overhaul was conducted to ensure that the fire had not spread to the concealed attic space of the home, and that no smoldering fire remained in the items kept in the home. EMS crews provided rehabilitation efforts to the firefighters.

 

The incident was controlled by over 20 Hartford Fire and Rescue staff with two fire engines, one ladder, one equipment truck, one ambulance, and one command vehicle. No citizens or fire rescue personnel were were injured in the incident. Multiple pets perished in the fire due to the super-heated air and smoke.

The building’s structural integrity was not affected, but smoke spread throughout the home. Fans were used to complete ventilation of the garage with fresh air. Two fire investigators from Harford Fire & Rescue along with two detectives from Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducted an origin and cause fire investigation.

At the time of this release the cause is undetermined pending further electrical system analysis. The property was turned back over to the homeowner.
