Janelle, Malachi’s mother, knew it was hard. Her heart broke for Malachi as three months passed, and he finished kindergarten virtually. She hoped next year would be better.
First grade was virtual through public school. Janelle made sure Malachi got the most out of it, but staying involved led her to find things in Malachi’s textbooks she and her husband Justin did not agree with.
Their eldest daughter Makenzie would begin preschool next year, and the Voisins began to feel public school was working against what they were trying to accomplish as parents.
Public school was working against them.
Janelle and Justin remembered their longtime friends, the Kasinskases, who had often spoken about the believers supporting their children at Ozaukee Christian School, 1214 Hwy. 33, West Bend, WI,. The Voisins signed up to tour the school.
“We fell in love,” says Janelle. “They shared our values. And they weren’t making six-year-olds stand six feet apart!”
From there, choosing OCS was easy.
“My mind is boggled that they incorporate God into every single subject,” says Janelle, still amazed after three years of being part of the OCS family.
Giving their children a strong biblical foundation in the early years has always been the top priority for the Voisins. Now they can do that with the help of their children’s school, rather than having to push back against it.
Janelle chuckled, “I don’t have to read the books ahead of time to see if there’s anything I disagree with.”
The Voisins look forward to many more years at OCS, saying they would even consider sending their children to high school there if OCS ever offered it.
