January 22, 2022 – Washington Co., WI – Below is a snapshot of three OWI arrests that occurred in less than seven hours Friday night in Washington County, WI.
Second offense OWI, Resisting Arrest, Armed While Intoxicated:
At 7:49 p.m. a vehicle was called in as almost running two other vehicles off the road on I41 southbound at Canary Ln in the Town of Wayne. A deputy stopped the driver as he exited on STH 144. The operator would only crack window and would not provide any identification. The deputy electronically obtained a DOT photo that showed operator was the registered owner. The owner, a 57-year-old Lomira man, was suspended, argumentative and displayed signs of impairment. The driver refused to exit the vehicle and needed to be physically removed by the deputy and a Slinger Police officer. A search of the vehicle yielded alcohol, a loaded and chambered 9mm handgun under the front seat armrest and a loaded shotgun attached to the back of the driver’s seat. The driver completed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested for second offense OWI. The deputy transported the driver to the Washington County Jail and requested charges for OWI, Resisting/Obstructing, Armed while Intoxicated and Possession of Illegally Obtained Prescription.
Fourth Offense OWI Accident:
At 12:18 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a citizen witness who was reporting a vehicle traveling 80mph and “all over the road” on I41 northbound from CTH K. The driver, a 32-year-old Appleton man, was stopped after striking median cables in the area of I41 and Canary Ln. The deputy arrested the driver after observing signs of impairment. The deputy transported the driver to the Washington County Jail and requested charges for fourth offense OWI and Bail Jumping. The driver was out on bond for several open criminal cases. These cases include 1st degree recklessly endangering safety-use of a dangerous weapon, Attempt Battery or Threat to Judge, Prosecutor, or Law Enforcement Officer-use of a dangerous weapon, Operator Flee/Elude Officer-Bodily Harm or Property Damage, Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting/Obstructing an officer, OWI 3rd, and Operating while Revoked. He also had a condition of absolute sobriety.
First Offense OWI:
At 2:31 a.m., a deputy located a vehicle at a business in the 7200 block of Sleepy Hollow Rd in the Town of Barton. The driver, a 34-year-old West Bend man, indicated he dropped his phone under his seat and was trying to retrieve it. The deputy arrested the driver after observing signs of impairment. A breath sample obtained a reported value of .10. The deputy turned over the driver to a responsible party.
