Op Ed | A Response to Gov. Evers’ 2025-2027 Budget Proposal | By State Rep. Rick Gundrum

Slinger, WI – Governor Evers’ proposed budget is another unrealistic, tax-and-spend agenda for liberal priorities.  If passed, his budget would raise taxes and fees on hardworking Wisconsinites by $3.7 billion.

Gundrum, election

The governor is proposing wasteful spending to grow the size of government, raise taxes to pay for his agenda, and hire additional bureaucrats to administer his programs.

Overall, the Governor’s proposed budget for 2025-2027 biennium would increase state spending by about 18% to $55.5 billion.  His budget is unsustainable.

Over the last decade, Republican leadership has put more money in Wisconsin taxpayer’s wallets while remaining in a strong financial position.

Aside from all the numbers, there is statutory language included in this budget bill that Republicans will be removing.  Throughout his 1,917-page document, there are at least 30 occasions where the Governor strikes the word “mother” and replaces it with gender-neutral terminology.  In addition, the word “father” is replaced over 120 times.

This means words like husband, man, wife, father, and mother would be replaced with inseminated person, spouse, and/or person.  His proposal has made Wisconsin a “national embarrassment.”

As your representative, I will once again work with my Republican colleagues to create a budget that is affordable and fiscally responsible.

Representative Rick Gundrum

Wisconsin State Assembly

District 58 – Slinger
