OBITUARY | Wolfgang Oskar Alfred Engel, 74, of Shorewood, formerly of West Bend, WI

March 7, 2024 – Wolfgang Oskar Alfred Engel, 74, formerly of West Bend, WI, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Clement Zablocki VA Hospital in Milwaukee.

Wolfgang was born on January 15, 1950, in Schwarmstedt, Germany to the late Adolf and Martha (nee Semrau) Engel. The Engels immigrated to the United States in 1951 and made their family home in Milwaukee, WI. Wolfgang attended Washington High School and graduated in 1968.

Wolfgang was drafted into the United States Army in 1970 and served in the Vietnam War from 1970 through 1976 in the 50th Infantry 2nd Armed Division in mortars and as a clerk and was honorably discharged. He then returned home and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science. He later bought a home and raised his family in West Bend, WI.

For many years, Wolfgang worked for Amity Leather Company and Sentry Insurance Company and retired in 2005.

Wolfgang enjoyed flying airplanes, sailing, scuba diving, reading, building & spending time with his family and dog Suzie at the cabin in Minocqua.

Wolfgang is survived by two children, Anthony (Gretchen) Engel of Chetek, Wisconsin, and Mariana (Jeff) Tetzlaff of West Bend, Wisconsin. He is further survived by four grandchildren, Ethan and Elyse Engel, and Analeigh and Weston Tetzlaff. Wolfgang also is survived by his brother, Harold (Dawn) Engel of Clearwater, Florida; niece, Laura (Jeff) Vose of Lebanon, Virginia; and nephew, Michael (Rosa Choi) Engel of Orlando, Florida; along with other family and friends.

Wolfgang was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Martha Engel, and his former wife, Catherine Engel.

VISITATION: Wolfgang’s family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Myrhum-Patten Funeral & Cremation Service (1315 W. Washington Street, West Bend).

SERVICE: A memorial service for Wolfgang will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. Reverend Rich Vincent will officiate the service at the funeral home and Military Honors will follow.

Memorials in honor of Wolfgang can be made to the Clement Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
