June 25, 2024 – West Bend, Wi – Virginia E. Jurss of West Bend passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, peacefully with her family by her side at Froedtert West Bend Hospital at the age of 95. She was born on January 30, 1929, in Burlington, IA to the late William H. and Marie C. DeBoer Bresser. Virginia was a graduate of Burlington High School.
On May 30, 1959, she was united in marriage to Herbert J. Jurss in Burlington, IA. Herbert passed away on June 10, 2012.
In April 1966, the family moved to West Bend where Virginia worked for many years at the former Wisconsin Bell and West Bend Company. She also enjoyed bowling, baking, needlepoint, puzzles, bingo and being a sports spectator, especially of the Green Bay Packers. She also became a true Wisconsinite and loved a good brandy old fashioned and fish fry.
She was a member of Holy Angels Parish and a 50-year member of the Women of the Moose West Bend Chapter #732.
Virginia Jurss leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She was a loving wife, nurturing mother, and an adoring grandmother and great grandmother. One of Virginia’s favorite sayings after tending to one of her 11 grandchildren, 3 great children or countless “grand dogs” was they were “good as gold” but it was Virginia who truly had a “heart of gold”.
She is survived by her 6 sons Scott (Sally) of West Bend, Christopher (Sheila) of Grafton, Keith (Michelle) of Bolton, MA , Neal (Lisa) of Eden, Joel (Penny) of Leander, TX and Dean (Chris) of Cambridge; 11 grandchildren Andrew, Jennifer (Brett) Graff, Jacob (Leah), Joshua (Jackie), Adeline (Jaime) Shanahan, Jared (Bridgitte), Kyle (Katlyn), Kolton, Jeremiah, Bryce, and Kaitlyn; 3 great grandchildren Theodore, Tallulah Shanahan and Mason and one sister, Joan Drish of Clearwater, FL; other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Lois Bence, Elaine Ryder, and Marie Paulus, and her great grandson, James.
Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the medical staff at Froedtert West Bend Hospital and Horizon Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days, and also to the staff at New Perspectives and Betty’s Harbor for the care, concern and friendship.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, with a visitation from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. with a Women of the Moose service at 1:45 p.m. followed by a funeral service. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park on Monday, July 1 where she will be laid to rest alongside her wonderful husband, Herbert Jurss.
In lieu of flowers, the Jurss family requests donations be made to New Perspectives for the benefit of their memory care programs.
Virginia will be dearly missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her love and light will continue to guide us, and her memory will forever be a beacon of hope and strength.
