September 5, 2024 – West Bend, Wi – Emma Tracy (nee Arvelo), 101, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Fields of Washington County in West Bend, Wisconsin.
Emma was born on March 20, 1923 in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico to Matildo and Agripina (nee Ramos) Arvelo. She met her husband William Tracy while he was stationed in Puerto Rico and was united in marriage on January 3, 1942.
When William returned from his Army military duty, the couple relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they raised their three daughters.
Emma was outgoing and determined. She was proud when she obtained her driver’s license and could purchase her first car. Emma’s most fulfilling job was working as a dietary aide at St. Michael’s Hospital where she prepared and served meals for individuals with special dietary needs.
Emma was a member of the Catholic Church for over 75 years. Her strong faith in God was an important part of her life. She also belonged the Legion of Mary and the Christian Women’s society. Even when Emma could no longer attend Mass, her rosary was never far from her, and she found comfort in daily prayer.
Emma was active and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, going to the gym and bingo. At home she loved to sing, play the organ, crochet and read about U.S. history and learn about different cultures.
Emma was kind and generous. She was sharp-witted and could be stubborn and feisty. Emma loved to be outside in the sunshine because it reminded her of her childhood home. Emma’s favorite pastime was visiting with her family.
Emma is survived by her three daughters Linda (John) Kunze of West Bend, Sally Steele of Juneau and Margaret Tracy of Milwaukee. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, a brother Luis in infancy, son-in-law James Steele, grandson-in-law Joseph Miller and her six siblings Justa Acevedo, Antonia Arvelo, Paulina Rios, Felipe Arvelo, Awilda Juarez, and Lydia Oliver.
VISITATION: Emma’s family will greet relatives and friends at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1025 S. Seventh Avenue, in West Bend, on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
SERVICE: A Mass of Christian Burial for Emma Tracy will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini in West Bend. Private entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Milwaukee.
