Obituary | Maurice “Maury” G. Leverance, 93, of Slinger

July 30, 2019 – Slinger, WI – Maurice “Maury” G. Leverance, 93, of Slinger, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2019 at The Kathy Hospice in West Bend.

Maurice was born on August 28, 1925 in Milwaukee to Emil and Barbara (nee Strupp) Leverance. He attended St. Peter Grade School, graduated Slinger High School in 1943 and was a longtime member of St Peter Catholic Church in Slinger.

Maury was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 on the Destroyer USS Colhoun DD-801, survivor of WWII. Theater of Combat, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. On July 24, 1948 he married Jeannette A. Frank and began their family. Maurice was a lifetime member of Catholic Order of Foresters, over 50 years with the VFW Slinger Post 3358, over 40 years with the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, and from 1946-1963 with Lithographers of America and a member of the Slinger Senior Citizens. Maury was an avid Brewer and Packer fan, bowler, pool shooter, fiddle player and had a love of music from a very young age. He spent 17 years wintering in Kissamee, FL. He made many friends near and far, and enjoyed his music with them. Maury was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Maury is survived by his 2 sons Michael (ChrisAnn) of West Bend and Thomas of Enid, OK. Also survived by 5 grandchildren; Mike (Carrie Ann) Leverance, Catherine Leverance, Matthew Leverance, Joshua and Kathryn Leverance; and 7 great-grandchildren; Madison, Clayton, Ethan, Chase, Camryn, Grayson, Jameson. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Maury is preceded in death by his loving wife Jeannette, his parents, sister Mary Jane (Harland) Rhode, grandma Lilly Leverance, uncle Alfred and aunt Mary Leverance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (200 E. Washington St. Slinger, WI 53086) with Rev. Richard Stoffel presiding. Military Honors to follow Mass. Visitation at the church on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Cremation to follow at Paradise Crematory and placement of cremains at Old St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Memorials are appreciated to St. Peter Catholic Church Children’s Music Program (208 E. Washington St. Slinger, WI 53086), VFW Slinger Zunker Held Post, Slinger High School Music Program and/or the Stars and Stripes Wisconsin Honor Flight.

A special thank you to his special caregiver, Cindy and everyone who offered support by visiting, sending cards and prayers for Maurice.
