OBITUARY | Visitation and Mass today for Lawrence “Larry” A. Spaeth, 84, of Jackson, WI

October 11, 2023 – Washington Co., WI – Lawrence (Larry) A. Spaeth of Jackson passed away peacefully at his home in West Bend on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the age of 84. He was born Oct. 12, 1938, on the Spaeth farm in the Town of Polk, to the late Lawrence G. and Margaret (nee Melder) Spaeth. He married Alice (nee Stephan) on July 16, 1960, at St. Boniface Church in Goldendale, WI. He attended Holy Angels grade school in West Bend.

Lawrence was employed by Horlamus Industries for 43 years, retiring in 1999.

His greatest joy was spending time with his close-knit family. Sunday afternoon visits with family or friends were always a highlight of his weekend.

He took much pride in the home that he built in Jackson, as well as his summer home in Wild Rose, WI. Woodworking was one of his favorite pastimes and he was quick to make any project requested. He took much pride in planting and producing a bountiful garden and enjoyed making wine from his grape harvest and other fruits.

He was a charter member of St. Frances Cabrini Church in West Bend; and a member of the West Bend Moose Lodge #1598 since 1976.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Alice, of 63 years; his daughters Cindy (Bernie) Wolf, Julie (Mike) Hembel and Noreen (Steve) Tietyen; Grandchildren Amy (Tim) Baier, Renee (Tony) Veit, Eric (Jess) Wolf, Kayla (Ross) Schuppel, Nikki Hembel, Brad (Samantha) Tietyen, Ashley (Joey) Hamilton; Great-grandchildren Dylan Baier, Mason Baier, Tessa Veit, Miles Veit, Ava Wolf, Emma Wolf, Taylor Hembel, Billie Schuppel, Brooks Schuppel, Madilyn Tietyen, twins Wyatt and Graham Tietyen, and baby Hamilton due in February. He is also survived by his brothers Edward (Patty) Spaeth and Daniel Spaeth, and sisters-in-law -Barbara Spaeth, Donna Spaeth; Alice’s sisters and brothers – Catherine (Wilbert) Walter, Richard (Mary) Stephan, Joseph (Diana) Stephan, and Barbara Neureuther; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson Keegan Veit, siblings: Rita (Oscar) Beder, Mildred (Louis) Theisen, Ethel (Joseph) Weninger, Irene (Fritz) Schellinger, Joseph (Betty) Spaeth, Charles Spaeth, David Spaeth, Michael Spaeth, sister-in-law Mary Spaeth; Alice’s brother-in-law – Alvin Neureuther.

Due to renovations at St. Frances Cabrini Church, a Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 406 Jefferson St, West Bend, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Jacob Strand presiding. Private burial will be held. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Wednesday from 3:00-5:45 p.m.
