OBITUARY | John Eugene Patterson, 79, of West Bend, WI

January 4, 2024 – West Bend, WI – John Eugene Patterson, 79, a devoted family man, drove off into the eternal sunset on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh, WI. He was ready to be reunited with his wife, Sandy.

Patterson

Born on September 21, 1944, to the late Marvin and Orleane (nee Cook) Patterson, John grew up in Greendale, WI and attended Greendale High School. He furthered his education by attending UW-Platteville. With a passion for the construction industry, John became a skilled and respected construction inspector with Wisconsin Electric.

He married Sandra “Sandy” (nee Neuy) Patterson on May 14, 1977, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend. Together, they shared 45 years of love and memories before Sandy’s passing on June 6, 2022.

John had a deep love for classic cars, particularly his cherished Chevy Monte Carlo – the infamous Elvis car, lovingly named ‘Blue Moon,’ and honorary family member, which was in the West Bend 4th of July parade every year. He and Sandy created countless treasured memories in Blue Moon, cruising through the open roads and participating in car shows. For John, his four seasons were: ‘winter, spring, fall, and car shows.’ They saw this as an opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts and celebrate their shared passion of good ol’ American muscle. This was a mutual love of both John and Sandy, and we well imagine that they are driving around heaven’s streets right now.

John was a great father to his blended family. He was knowledgeable and always willing to help when, and wherever, he could. He is now at peace and free from pain, but will never be forgotten as he will be in the hearts of many for eternity.

He is leaving behind his eight children, Kris (Butch) Hobbs of Oshkosh, Mindy (Todd) Julian of Arizona, Mike (Julie) Patterson of Mukwonago, Scott Patterson (special friend Leah Ritchie) of Appleton, Thomas (April) Boettcher, Jr. of New London, Mike Boettcher (special friend Michele George) of Lake Bernice, Steve (Kari) Holland of West Bend, and Rhonda (Bob) LeMay of West Bend and his 24 grandchildren, Ashley Hobbs (Nick Munro), Mandy (Scott) Dickrell, Adam Hobbs, Brianna (Kendall), Allie and Kiana Julian, Joey, Andrew, and Elizabeth Patterson, Shelby (Nathan) Birkholz, and Allison and Caleb Patterson, Thomas (Amanda) Boettcher III, Cassie (Michael) Kimmerling, Natasha Bailey, Nathan Boettcher, DJ George, Logan Boettcher, Kayla, Jenna, Kyle Holland, Jeremy Cook, Paris and Bowen LeMay.

He is further survived by 19 great-grandchildren, Caden Munro, Olive Hobbslee, Zara, Lucy, and Lincoln Munro, Kennedy and Reid Dickrell, and Amelia Birkholz, Trinity, Tidus and Olivia Boettcher, Thomas (TJ) and Penelope Kimmerling, Cooper and Trevor Noenning, Sawyer and Wynter Bailey, Nova Leigh Boettcher, and Gracelynn Holland.

He was met in heaven by his parents; wife; and his grandson, Cayden James LeMay; great-grandson, Quinten Loki Boettcher; brothers, Don (Carole) Patterson; sister, Nancy (Harold) Beasley; Sandy’s siblings, Shirley, Arlene, Dorothy, Carol, Linda, Butch, Richard, Thomas, and Kenneth; and many other friends and relatives that have gone before him.
