June 24, 2020 – Jackson, WI – Heinz Alwin Walther, 85, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Eva (Muelbl) Walther; his children, Heinz Walther, Paul (Anita) Walther, and Caroline (Ted) Ansani; six beloved grandchildren, Alyssa, Adriane and Heinz Walther and Paul, Christine and Teddy Ansani.

Heinz was born in Sindelfingen, Germany on January 22, 1935 and spent his childhood there with his family, parents Martha and Paul Walther and his five siblings, Paula, Anne Liese, Margarete, Isolde and Eugen. He learned his trade in sheet metal in Stuttgart, Germany at the Mercedes-Benz factory.

He came to America in the late 1950’s and joined the U.S. Army where he proudly served from 1957-1959.  Upon returning to Chicago in 1959 he met his beloved Eva at a German dance hall in April and by October 17 they were married. They raised their children in their home on Sawyer Avenue, where he was well known in the neighborhood. A talented sheet metal craftsman and foreman, co-workers fondly called him “Wally.”

Heinz enjoyed conversation with everyone and loved to joke and make others laugh.  You always knew when Heinz was coming if you just listened for his whistling.  He never shied away from work or a job, loved to tell the story of how he boxed as a young man and was as strong as a bull!  He loved his family above all and will be greatly missed.
