He was the eldest son of Frank Lee Haskins and Vivian Lucille Haskins. His siblings were Roger Haskins, Jerry (Flycka) Haskins, David Haskins, and Trudy Harper.

Grant served on active duty in the United States Navy and was stationed in Puerto Rico. After he was honorably discharged from the military, he went back to Moline to live and work. There he met Dorinda Diane Marke, with whom he was married for 37 years before they divorced in 2005. Together, they had 3 children: Scott Haskins, Todd Haskins, and Heather (Craig) Thomas; and raised Dorinda’s 1st child, Tim Wiley as his own. Their family lived in Rock Island, Illinois, and then moved to West Bend, Wisconsin in 1990.

Grant met Janice Nabak and they married in 2011 in Jackson, Wisconsin. After 5 years of marriage, they divorced but remained best friends and he is still loved by her. Grant worked as a Chemist in the paint industry and retired at age 73 from Hentzen Coatings in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Grant’s most memorable moments had to do with his fishing or gardening. He and Dorinda owned a tropical fish store for a short time in Illinois called “I’m a Fish Nut.” His greatest joy was tending to his garden. He had the biggest green thumb around and always had a huge vegetable and fruit garden. The family favorite was his fresh green peas. He and all the kids and grandkids would help pick peas and then sit around big bowls and eat them right from the shell.

All who knew Grant loved him because he was welcoming, kind, and a straight shooter. He loved giving compliments, especially to the women in his life because he thought all women were beautiful. He would ask, “Are you married yet?” or say, “Hey, Beautiful” to get a smile or giggle.

During Grant’s 79th birthday celebration, his wish was “to have lots and lots of great-grandkids!” He certainly had a large number of offspring. He would say, “If it wasn’t for me, none of you would exist!” He had 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren as follows:

Scott (son): Ashlee, Chelsee, Kasee, Bailey, Hannah, Cheyenne

Ashlee (granddaughter): Armahnee, Amahre, Davonee + baby girl on the way!

Chelsee (granddaughter): Maiya, Ca’mera, Meela, Novian

Todd (son): Ethan, Haley, McKenna

Heather (daughter): Lucas and Cooper

Grant leaves behind a family that dearly loved and respected him. He will be greatly missed.
