OBITUARY | Frederick “Fred” J. Lang, 85, of Crivitz, WI, formerly of West Bend, WI

November 1, 2023 – Washington Co., WI – Frederick J. Lang, 85, of Crivitz, formerly of West Bend died Saturday, October 21, 2023, at his home. He was born December 25, 1937, in the Town of Trenton to Frederick and Helen (nee Staehler) Lang.

On June 25, 1960, he was united in marriage to Patricia Metrish at St. Frances Cabrini Church in West Bend. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1988. He was then united in marriage to Beth Staehler on September 8, 1989, at Holy Angels Church in West Bend.

Fred

Fred lived on the family farm in the Town of Trenton for most of his life. He started working for the Gehl Company in the late 1960s and performed many jobs while there. He retired after 57 years of employment in 2015. He also enjoyed driving a dump truck for a number of years. Following their retirement, Fred and Beth moved up north to Crivitz.

He enjoyed woodworking and made furniture for many of his family members. Fred was a member of the S/Sgt Henry Gumm Post 486 American Legion in Jackson and a member of the West Bend Lodge 1398 Loyal Order of the Moose.

Fred was a Sergeant in the Air National Guard where he enjoyed being a boom operator on a refueling plane. He also was a Sergeant with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department where he worked as a part-time deputy for 21 years.

Fred is survived by his wife of 34 years, Beth, 4 children: Jeffrey (special friend Diane) Lang, Mark (Laura) Lang, Laurie (William) Schleif, and Michael Lang and 5 grandchildren: Kaity Meyer, Logan Lang, Lucas Gleason-Lang, Kaylee Lang and Elly Schleif. He is further survived by his siblings: Carol (George) Lang and James (Barbara) Lang, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Joseph (Sharon) Staehler, Fr. Adrian Staehler, OFM, Karen (Ray) Wollner, Steven (Rita) Staehler, Joseph Perin, Robert (Joan) Metrish, Thomas (Sonia) Danuser, John (Patricia) Metrish, Donald (Kathy) Metrish and Nancy (Thomas) Callan, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Lang, 2 grandsons Joshua Lang and Connor Lang, his parents Frederick and Helen Lang, his sister MaryAnn (Otis) Whitcomb, his parents-in-law: Joseph and Sylvia Staehler and Joseph and Gertrude Metrish, his brother-in-law George Lang and his sister-in-law Loretta Perin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg with Rev. Patrick Burns and Rev. Adrian Staehler, OFM presiding. Burial with military honors will be Saturday, November 4 at 9:30 a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend. The family will greet visitors on Friday, at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. Masses or memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are appreciated.
