Jan. 23, 2019 – Fond du Lac, WI – Eleanor J. Holmes (nee Slayton) age 85 of Fond du Lac died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
She was born March 7, 1933 in Stone Lake, WI to Albert and Arvella (nee Evans) Slatyon and married Michael D. Holmes on June 21, 1958 in Eau Claire. Michael preceded her in death on May 15, 1999.
Eleanor worked at the West Bend Company for over 25 years.
She had many talents and interests. She was well known for her canning, especially chicken and items grown in her garden. She was an excellent seamstress and would often mend and repair clothes for her entire family. While relaxing, Eleanor loved to read and do jig-saw puzzles to keep her mind busy and sharp.
Eleanor enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was watching and feeding the birds or fishing at their cottage up-north.
Eleanor is survived by her 3 children: Janet Holmes of Appleton, Bill (Jody Wunrow) Holmes of Fond du Lac and Julie (Jesse) Kirmse of Wisconsin Rapids, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sisters: Darlene (Norbert) Gundry of Stone Lake, WI and Dorothy Wellskopf of West Allis and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Arvella Slayton, her husband Michael Holmes, 2 daughters: Jean Holz and Joan (Jim) Junk and 2 granddaughters: Tiffany Holz and Stephanie Junk.
A memorial services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend. Inurnment will follow in Newark Cemetery.
