Craig Timothy Syron, 47, found his next great adventure on August 12, 2016 in Slemmestad, Norway.
When he was an English teacher, one of his favorite assignments was having his students write their own obituaries; we can only hope to represent the passion with which he lived his life well enough to have earned a passing grade.
He was born on April 24, 1969 in Sheboygan, WI. He attended Marathon High School, where he broke and held the school’s shot put record for several decades. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserve and served in Operation Desert Storm in the 548th Medical Detachment.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2004. He loved his children more than anything else in the world and never hesitated to share how proud he was of them. Coaching was a passion of his. From the first team his daughter joined to the last one his son played on, he happily and proudly coached diverse activities, including soccer, football, baseball, basketball, debate, forensics, and of course, shot put and discus.
He was the Head Throws Coach at West Bend West High School for 11 years. In that time, he had an immeasurable impact on the program and more importantly, on the students, and coined the throws squad’s nickname “Wrecking Crew.” He also loved playing the guitar, singing, and the outdoors.
More recently, he was very proud of finishing his second half-marathon.
He is survived by Kari, children Abigail and Ian, brother, Scott (Susie) Syron, sister Nicole (Sam) Grulke, stepsisters Jennifer Dobratz, Toni Heine, and Jodi Heine, father Paul (Jeanne) Syron, step-father Larry (Diane) Heine, and nieces and nephews Jacob, Katherine, Eric, Sydney, Bailey, Zachary, and Amelia. He is preceded in death by his mother Karen Mae Viegut. He is further survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend on August 25, 2016 at 2 p.m. Visiting before the service will begin at 1 p.m. There will be a small reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.
