Obituary | SSG Brian Robert Villwock, U.S. Army (Ret.), 55, of West Columbia, formerly of Allenton, WI

July 12, 2024 – Allenton, Wi – SSG Brian Robert Villwock, U.S. Army (Ret.), 55, of West Columbia, died Monday, July 8, 2024. He was so loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Brian

Brian held many titles in his life through his military service and subsequent career, but his favorite role was being a father. Even as his health declined in recent years, he never lost his sense of humor or optimism for the road ahead. His family will always remember his recounts of cherished family vacations and his encyclopedic knowledge of the Green Bay Packers.

He was born to Robert and Barbara Villwock in Waupun, WI on February 19, 1969. As a young child, he lived in Tokyo and various places in the American South due to his father’s military service.

The family settled down in Allenton, Wisconsin, and in 1987, Brian graduated from Slinger Community High School in Slinger, WI, where he was an accomplished trumpeter.

In 1990, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country honorably for 21 years.

He completed basic training at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey before embarking on a decades-long journey around the world. His first deployment was shortly after that through Operation Desert Storm.

His first few years of service took him to Panama (where he met and married Lourdes) at Fort Riley, Kansas, where Kelly and Jeremy joined their family.

He was then stationed at the NATO base in the Netherlands and in Germany, where he served two deployments to Iraq.

The family settled in South Carolina, where Ashley was born and where Brian eventually retired.

Following his service, he taught high school math for 2 years before working as a mail carrier and supervisor for the United States Postal Service, where he worked until his passing.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by the mother of his children, Lourdes De Gracia Villwock; children, Kelly Villwock, Jeremy Villwock, and Ashley Villwock; sister, Rebecca Remington, and her husband, Chris; and nephews, Easton Remington, Lincoln Remington, Cole Remington, and Dane Remington.

The graveside service will be held on Friday, July 19, at 1 p.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC, where he will find eternal rest.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the National Veterans Foundation or Semper Fi & America’s Fund in his name.
