Obituary | John Marshall Gordon, “Jack”, 70, of Hartford

November 13, 2020 – Hartford, WI – John Marshall Gordon, “Jack”, 70, of Hartford, Wisconsin passed into the presence of his Savior, Thursday, November 12, 2020 in the comfort of his home and loving care of his family with his beloved wife at his side.

 

He valiantly fought cancer for 6 years.
Jack was born August 19, 1950 in DeKalb, Illinois to Julia Margaret (nee Sayers) and John Mahlon Gordon. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Edith June Carpenter, on August 15, 1970 in Naperville, IL. She was the love of his whole life.
Jack graduated from Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in 1971, majoring in music and minoring in Bible.

His life’s calling was to serve God by ministering music in the local church. He served at the Village Church in Bartlett, Illinois for 4 years, and Jack and June then moved to Hartford in 1978. Jack was a devoted member of First Baptist Church where he served alongside his brother Rev. Michael in many capacities including music director for 42 years. He had a profound influence on many people’s love for good music through the years in various ways such as singing solos and in groups, directing children’s and adult choirs, cantatas, and men’s quartets, and playing his guitar for his family and others to sing along.

 

Jack was known by all who loved him as a hard working and faithful man. He knew that God would supply for his family, and had a desire to serve the Lord Jesus Christ first and foremost.

He worked several jobs including Alpha Baking for 22 years in Milwaukee, WI.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, June; loving children, Amy Rebekah (partner Charles Grant) Gordon of Madison, Melissa Joy (Rev. Matthew) Abrahamson of Waunakee, Caleb John (Kassey) Gordon of Milwaukee, and Cherie June (Rev. Troy) Budreau of New Haven, MI; cherished grandchildren Rhiannon, Myria, Marlena, Maelyn, Levi, Myles, Carson, Clayton, Kaylee, Lukas, Alise, and Karis. He is further survived by siblings, Jan, Rev. Michael, Tim, Mark, Sue, David, and Steve, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Frederick Ellis Carpenter; son-in-law Christopher Fohl; sister-in-law Carolyn Gordon; and brother-in-law John Carpenter.

Jack’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 10-12 at First Baptist Church (112 Church Street Hartford, WI 53027) with Services beginning at noon.

Committal will be held following services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford, WI.
