Shirley J. Widder (nee TenHaken), age 80, died peacefully on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Beloved wife of Neal for 59 years. Devoted mother of Carl (Christine), Jeffrey (Marie) and Lynn (Mark). Dear grandmother of Sarah, Adam (Alanna), Elizabeth, Andrew, Alexander and Stephanie. Preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Alice (nee Huenink) TenHaken, siblings Marian, Gerald, Robert and Leslie.
Shirley loved teaching children and began her education career in Sheboygan County at the Horace Mann, Maple Grove and Cedar Grove Schools. Part time teaching at Port Washington and Neenah preceded the family to move to Sheboygan where she was a kindergarten teacher at Pigeon River School for 24 years, retiring in 1993. She shared her music talent with church choirs for many years. Shirley loved family activities, especially birthdays and holidays. After retiring from teaching she enjoyed her friends and activities of the Sheboygan County Quilters Guild. In April 2015 Shirley and Neal moved to the Cedar Community in West Bend. In 2016 Shirley became a resident at the Cottages at Cedar Run where she received loving memory care from the staff, supported by Cedar Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be at 3:30 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W. Paradise Dr, West Bend, WI 53095) with Rev. Deborah Howland presiding.
