Obit: Robert A. Fechter, Sr., 93, of Saukville

 

Dec. 25, 2017 – Saukville, WI – On Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, Robert A. Fechter, Sr. passed away peacefully at home, with family, at the age of 93.  He was a proud resident of the town of Saukville his entire life.  He was born on May 8, 1924 to Alois, Sr. & Susan (nee Fleischner) Fechter.  On May 8, 1948 he married Alice (Zeckmeister) at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg, WI.  They had six children.

Robert was proud to be a farmer all of his life.  Together Robert, Alice, and son John own R. Fechter Family Farm, Inc. in Saukville.  Through the years Robert held many positions in the Town of Saukville.

In 1963 he joined the Zoning and Planning Committee, in 1975 he was elected Town Supervisor and in 1979 he was elected the Town Chairman. He also was on many committees representing the town at the county level, such as: Ozaukee County Supervisor, Farmland Preservation Committee, Soil Erosion Committee, Emergency Government, and other positions that were connected with farming operations. He was honored by the Town of Saukville for his 22 years of service and dedication. Robert also enjoyed traveling with his wife to various locations across the US.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Alice; six children: Susan (James) Van Beek, Jean (Alan) Carmody, Linda (Ronald) Wilkens, Robert, Jr. (Robin), Scott (Kelly), and John Fechter; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister: Barbara (Donald) Brickheimer; and sister-in-laws: Jane Fahney, Bernice, Ruth and Jean Zeckmeister.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and one great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 29 at 12 noon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg.  Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.

The family has requested memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Foundation.

The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.
