Obit: LaRae German

M. LaRae German, nee Umbs, was called home to be with her savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the age of 85 years. She was born on September 26, 1930 in Hartford to the late Raymond and Lorrayne (nee Ritger) Umbs. LaRae was a life-long resident of the Allenton area. As a young lady, she would spend time at her Grandma and Grandpa Ritger’s cottage on Big Cedar Lake.

On June 28, 1952, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” German at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Allenton.

For a many of years, LaRae and Jack owned and operated the Little Red Inn in St. Lawrence.

Through-out her life, she willingly gave of her time. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, singing with the choir for 35 years. She also served as a 4-H leader for music and drama, and as a Cub Scout leader. She was a member of Women’s Aglow and a bible study group.

LaRae loved spending time with her family. The shared pictures, memories of trips to the family cottage in Eagle River, her hand-made quilts and sewing items will all be cherished for years to come.

Later in life, she and Jack enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jack; 4 children Jay (Joanie) of Allenton, Tim (Sue) of St. Lawrence, Paul (Carla) of Oconomowoc and Julie (Tim) Keith of West Bend; 10 grandchildren: Stacy, Ali (Ewan) O’Donnell, John, Nicholas, Luke, Hannah, Leah, Brad (fiancée Kelly) Keith, Kaela (Luke) Mutter and Karlie Keith; 3 great-grandchildren: Jackson Lane and Macy and Regan Mutter; 1 sister Barbara (Jim) Lang of Atlanta, GA; 1 brother Randy Umbs of Montana; 2 sisters-in-law Ella Schleif of West Bend and Judy (Bob) Pomahawk of Rockton, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 daughter Mary Jo and 2 sisters Nancy Craven and Susan Prevort.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 14 at 1 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Stoffel presiding. Burial will be at a later date in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.

The family has requested memorials to Resurrection Catholic Parish or St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Parish.
