Joel F. Schneiss, 43, of Campbellsport, left this world to enjoy eternal life with his Savior on Thursday, May 5. He was in the company of his loving family when he passed away at the Kathy Hospice in West Bend.
Joel fought a valiant and courageous 2 year fight with cancer. All who knew and loved him can take solace in the fact that Joel is now at peace and pain free.
Joel was the youngest of 6 children born to Paul and Joan (nee Gessner), in West Bend on July 16, 1972. He attended Good Shepherd Lutheran grade school in West Bend and graduated in 1991 from Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Jackson. He was a member of Campbellsport Alliance Church.
He married Brenda Kufahl at Community Church of West Bend on June 28, 1996. They resided in West Bend until moving to their home in Campbellsport in 2000. It was there that they had two children, Paige and Marshall, now 15 and 11. Joel was the ultimate family man and a terrific dad to his kids. He was active in their sports in the community coaching Paige’s baseball team until his illness sidelined him. He was an avid sports fan especially of football. All that knew him also knew that he had a very strong passion for the St. Louis Rams football team, watching every game and sporting their jerseys whenever he had the chance.
Joel was a fun loving kind of guy that everyone loved. Because of that, he developed many friendships over his short span of life. He very much enjoyed anything electronic and made a hobby of gaming – alone, with his kids, his nephews and/or friends.
He was employed at Charter Communications, USIC, Frontier and for the past 4 years at Weasler Engineering.
Surviving Joel is his wife, Brenda (Kufahl) Schneiss, children Paige and Marshall, his parents, Paul and Joan Schneiss of West Bend. He is also survived by siblings, Paula (Dan) Siegmann of Rubicon, Penni (Randy) Wiskirchen, Jeff (Gail) Schneiss, Jay Schneiss (fiancé, Kelly Stone), and Polly (Paul) Renard, all of West Bend. Joel is further survived by his parents-in-law, Roger and Marge Kufahl of West Bend and one sister-in-law, Angie (Steve) Beisbier of Allenton. Joel also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will very much miss their “fun loving” uncle.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts, uncles and other relatives.
A Funeral Service for Joel will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Pastor Doug Birr presiding. Visitation will be held at the Phillip Funeral Home at 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, on Wednesday, May 11 from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m. There will be a private family burial service Thursday at Washington County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Joel’s memory to the continuing care and education of his children, Paige and Marshall.
The family wishes to thank the Kathy Hospice for their care of Joel in his final hours. Also special thanks to the community of Campbellsport for their support throughout Joel’s illness. Thank you to Joel’s Weasler Engineering co-workers for the many contributions that they made to help Joel and his family through this difficult time. A sincere thank you to all of those who put together and supported the benefit held for Joel when he was first diagnosed. The family will be ever grateful for the love and constant support of all their friends and acquaintances.
