July 23, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Jean (nee Rosenheimer) Schumann, 88, of West Bend, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2018 at Kathy Hospice, West Bend, WI.
She was born on November 18, 1929 to the late Maurice Rosenheimer and Gladys (nee Clark) Rosenheimer – Reis, in Milwaukee, WI.
She attended Kewaskum Public Schools and later attended Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, WI and Beaver College (Arcadia) in Glenside, PA where she obtained a degree in Home Economics.
In her senior year she traveled to Europe via steamship, taking with her a 150-pound trunk (suitcase), and was among the first Americans to view the devastation of World War II.
On May 16, 1958 she was united in marriage to John T. Schumann at Big Cedar Lake. Jean worked and supported John with his Real Estate business, Rock Inc. She was a lifetime member of the Cedar Lake Yacht Club and Cedar Lakes Conservation Foundation. She was also a member and treasurer for the Daughters of the American Revolution (West Bend Chapter) for many years.
Jean loved growing up on Big Cedar Lake, sailing a Cub Boat, and dancing and roller skating at Rosenheimer’s Resort. She continued to spend many summers on the lake with her own family and friends. Jean loved nature and cherished each day at her home nestled in the countryside near West Bend. She would frequently say “My Cup Runneth Over” because she felt so blessed. She was a beautiful loving, caring and devoted mother, wife and best friend to many.
She is survived by three children, Rock Thomas Schumann, Jennifer (Michael) Zajicek, and Jeffrey (Beverly) Kenkel, sister, Suzanne (Ken) Priegel, niece, Wendy Nelthorpe, nephew, Rusty Nelthorpe, sister in law, Joy Erdman, brother in law, P. Richard (Jo) Schumann, sister in law, Virginia Schumann, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, father and mother in law, Hubert and Florence (nee Borchardt) Schumann, brother in laws, Burns “Blackie” Nelthorpe, Tom Erdman, sister and brother in law, Marilyn and Walter Rahn.
In keeping with her wishes, funeral services and burial are private and for immediate family only. Memorials can be given to the Cedar Lake Conservation Foundation, Cedar Lake Yacht Club and to the Rosenheimer Cemetery Association.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her in-home caregivers with Home Instead and the nurses and staff at Serenity Villa for their kindness and compassion. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Horizon Hospice and Kathy Hospice for their exceptional care and guidance. In addition, the family would like to recognize and thank Judi at GeriCare for her on-going guidance and support to our family.
