Obit: Irene R. Janous, 86, Campbellsport

Irene R. Janous, 86, of Campbellsport passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, Sheboygan Falls. She was born in Chilton on Nov. 25, 1929 the daughter of Otto and and Lucy (Ott) Joas. Irene graduated from Campbellsport High School as class Salutatorian and worked as a secretary at Brittingham and Hixon Lumber Company in Campbellsport. On October 8, 1949, she married Leo J. Janous at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Campbellsport.

Irene then worked as an in home seamstress (sewing 58 wedding dresses the last one for her granddaughter Ann) and as bookkeeper for Thelen & Janous. After retiring she worked in the lunch room at Campbellsport Public Schools. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, the Christian Women and the Red Hat Ladies-the Scarlet Gems. Irene enjoyed bowling in various leagues and golfing in the women’s league and couples league at Camelot. She volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program, also enjoyed traveling especially with the West Bend Knights of Columbus group and playing dominos with friends and family. Irene attended as many of her grandchildren’s sporting and other events as possible and always had a picture puzzle going.

Survivors include her children Kathryn (John) Johnson of Fond du Lac, Julie (Alan) Andrea of Lake Forest, IL, David (Heidi) Janous of Port Washington and Nancy (Dennis) Witkowski of Plymouth, her grandchildren Ann (Brian) Olson, Jennifer (Jayme) Hermanns, Elizabeth (Michael) Braun, Adam (Ariel) Andrea, Giselle Andrea, Nick Janous, Allie Janous, Marshall (Mary) Witkowski, Kate Witkowski and Clare Witkowski, her great grandchildren Evan, Claire, Carter, Gabriel, Heath and Madeleine, her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Evelyn and Doug Uelmen of Green Bay, Andy and Pat Janous, James and Susan Janous all of Campbellsport and Francis and Joan Janous of Madison, SD, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo on June 23, 2009, her brothers Donald (Emerald Lee) Joas and Robert Joas, her sister Helen (Andrew) Steindorf and her sister-in-law Marie (Orville) Mathieu.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7th at 5:00 PM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Campbellsport. Rev. Mark Jones will officiate and burial will be Monday, Aug. 8th at 11:00 AM in St. Martin’s Cemetery, Ashford. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 7th from 3:00 PM until time of Mass at the Church.
