Gordon L. “Gordie” McFarlane, 68, of West Bend, formerly of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.

Gordie was born on June 19, 1948, in Chippewa Falls, the son of the late Wilbur and Lucille (McIlquham) McFarlane. On September 6, 1969, he was united in marriage to his best friend and soulmate, Susan Smith in Eau Claire. This happened after a highly contested battle with his fraternity brother to win the heart of the sorority president (Sue). Despite the fact that they were opposites in many ways, they treasured their 50 years together creating a close knit family. After 12 years of marriage they were ecstatic to welcome their oldest daughter Lindsay. Krysti followed shortly after and the four of them enjoyed many fantastic horse shows, musicals, and family trips. The past four years he was known as “Bubba” to his grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them on a daily basis.

Gordie was a guidance counselor at Riverview Middle School in Plymouth for 41 years and retired in 2011. He especially enjoyed his time outside, working in his yard, fishing, and helping others with their outdoor projects. Gordie was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and especially enjoyed attending Badger and Brewer games with his family. Gordie was exceptionally lucky when it came to his favorite game of poker, much to the dismay of his close friends. Remember Gordie the next time you hear a catchy tune and he will be singing along with you.

Gordie is survived by his wife, Susan; two daughters, Lindsay McFarlane of Madison and Krysti (Joe) Wick of West Bend; his two grandchildren, Keaton and Kyla Wick, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Gordie was preceded in death by his brother Melvin McFarlane.

A memorial service for Gordie will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016, at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, 1315 West Washington Street, in West Bend. Gordie’s family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Gordon McFarlane Memorial Scholarship Fund are appreciated.
