Obit: Glenway “Hefty” Backhaus, 87, Kewaskum

Glenway “Hefty” W. Backhaus, 87, of the town of Kewaskum, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the town of Polk.

He was born on August 12, 1928 the son of the late Loran L. and Ella (nee Guth) Backhaus and in February 1954, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Buss at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.  Marilyn preceded Glenway in death on May 25, 2006.

Glenway worked as a farmer as well as owning and operating a milk hauling business for many years.  He enjoyed watching the Wisconsin Badgers, Packers Football, Brewers Baseball and all Kewaskum Athletics.  Glenway was a 50 year plus Badger season ticket holder.

Glenway was a life time member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.

Those Glenway leaves behind to cherish his memory include three children, Randy Backhaus of Kewaskum, Gary (Pam) Backhaus of Sun Prairie and Gail (Mike) Bassill of West Bend; four grandchildren, Daniel Backhaus, Erin (Mike Jacobs) Backhaus, Lisa (Jacob) Turowski and Jennifer Bassill; two great-grandchildren, Madilynn Jacobs and Ellie Turowski; a sister, Mary (George) Hanrahan; a brother Loran “Jupe” C. (Betty) Backhaus; a good friend, Frank Krueger, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Glenway will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 1st St, in Kewaskum.  Rev. Eric Kirkegaard will officiate and burial will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services.
