Obit: Florence R. Volkmann, 100, formerly of Allenton

 

Jan. 31, 2018 – Florence R. Volkmann of Charlevoix, MI (formerly of Allenton, WI.) passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the age of 100.

Florence was born on October 16, 1917, in the Township of Barton WI., to William and Elsie (Kirchner) Faber. She graduated from West Bend High School in 1936 and married Leander Weber on November 12, 1938. Together they made their home in the Township of Wayne and became members of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church. Florence was employed by the First National Bank of West Bend, the Wayne and Addison Cheese Company, the Dinner Bell Restaurant and finally the United States Postal Service (as a postal clerk in Allenton WI.), from which she retired in 1981. She was preceded in death by a daughter Juliette in 1944 and husband Leander in 1979. She married the Rev. Marvin Volkmann in 1980 and he preceded her in death in 2005.

At Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School, was a charter member of the Zion Ladies Aid and was an officer in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She also was a member of the Homemakers Club and the Wayne Willing Weavers. Along with 5 other women, she was part of a canasta club that was together from 1955 to 2011.

She is survived by a son Jonathan “Jack” (Kathy) Weber of Charlevoix, MI, and two granddaughters, Nicole (Xander) Waites of New Orleans, LA, and Tiffany (Erik) Adams of Chicago, IL.
A funeral service for Florence will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, 6438 Hwy. D, in Allenton.  Rev. Steve Bode will officiate with interment and luncheon to follow.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Zion Scholarship fund or Hospice of Northwest Michigan (220 West Garfield, Charlevoix, MI 49720) are appreciated.
The Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Homes have been entrusted with Florence’s arrangements.
