Donald Rismeyer, of Port Washington, went to walk with his Lord during the morning hours of Monday, May 9, 2016 at Milan Estates in Saukville where he had resided. He was 93 years old.
Don was born in Port Washington on April 19, 1923, the oldest child of Theodore Rismeyer and Lorraine Goetter Rismeyer. He grew up in Port Washington, and enlisted in the US Marine Corp to serve his country in 1943. He honorably served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. On April 20, 1949 he married June Henke at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Washington. The couple was happily married for over 66 years until June’s death on February 9, 2016.
Don owned and operated an oil delivery business until 1972. After, he worked for 15 years as a custodian for the Port Washington School District, retiring in 1988. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Washington.
Don was a very proud Marine and WWII veteran, belonging to Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 in Port Washington, the Ozaukee County Memorial Post 5373 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corps League McCullen-Kimpel Det. #552 in Fond du Lac. One of his favorite memories was going on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight in 2010.
Don and June enjoyed spending time in both Florida and Crivitz. Don also enjoyed cooking, woodworking and doing anything outdoors, including hunting, fishing and gardening.
Don is survived by his four children: Wendy Zettinig of Fond du Lac, Dale (Patti) Rismeyer of the Town of Grafton, Duane (Jaime) Rismeyer of Port Washington and Amy (Kevin) Hjort of Lakewood. He is further survived by 10 grandchildren: Michael (fiancé Tracy Adams) Zettinig, Matthew Zettinig, Catherine Zettinig, Shane (Kristen) Rismeyer, Amanda (Brandon) Slayton, Jessica (Tim) Dehn, Kaitlyn (Jon Propp) Hjort, Nicole Hjort, Kyle and Erika Rismeyer, four great-grandchildren: Tracie, Haylie, Seely and Remi, one sister Cynthia (the late Roger) Keller of Port Washington, four sisters-in-law; Charlotte Rismeyer of Saukville, Marion Rismeyer of Belgium, and Donna (Loren) Woerpel and Sharon Reisner, both of Escanaba, MI, one brother-in-law Donald Plier of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Tracy Zettinig, five brothers; Lloyd, Harold, Raymond, Wallace and Clifford, and five sisters; Janice (the late Edward)Beke, Beverly (the late Joseph) Yovanovich, Adrianne Plier, Shirley Voeller and Elizabeth (the late Louie) Bodi.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 15th at 3:30 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 217 N. Freeman Dr., Port Washington. Pastor John Klieve will preside over the service. Don will be laid to rest with military honors beside his wife in Union Cemetery, Port Washington.
Visitation will take at the CHURCH on Sunday, May 15th from 1-3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
