Donald “Don” Edward Beggan peacefully entered into eternal life on August 10, 2016 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Helen Cechvala Beggan, whom he married at St. Michael’s, Kewaskum on September 13, 1947. Loving father of Gayle Kugler, Margo (Bernie) Suardini, Jeffrey (Terry) Beggan, Renee (Paul) Smits and Mark Beggan. Proud grandfather of Tia, Zach, Adam, Chrissy, Carrie, Rianna and Karina and great-grandfather of Eli, Sawyer, Mila, Henzley, Nesja and Cyrus. He is further survived by his sister Marjorie (Beggan) Black and sister-in-law Marian Beggan Daubenmeyer; and many nieces and nephews. He was “the last uncle”, with 10 uncles in the Beggan-Cechvala family.
Born in Cascade, Don grew up in the area with parents Frank and Chrissy Beggan, brothers James and Francis, and sisters Rosemary and Marjorie. After graduating from high school, he served in the US Army Air Corp in Pensacola, Florida and Washington DC, supporting WWII efforts. When he came home from service in 1946 he met his future wife, Helen, when he applied at the Enger Kress Company in West Bend and later that week they shared their first dance at Lighthouse Lanes in Barton.
The couple raised their family in Milwaukee and Slinger. Don worked at Broan (NuTone) Manufacturing in Milwaukee and Hartford for 35 years. For 17 years he also worked as a rural letter carrier for the Slinger Post Office. After retirement, the couple moved to Hartford and enjoyed the ‘condo life’ so they could travel and still be close to family.
Don enjoyed a rich life of family, faith, work, play and being out in nature. Known for his quick-witted jokes and unique ways, he is now up in heaven entertaining God and the angels, with his sparkling blue eyes and special brand of humor.
A private service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Don Beggan’s name may be made to: The Basicilica of the National Shrine of Mary, 1525 Carmel Road, Hubertus, WI 53033 or The MS Society-Wisconsin Chapter, 1120 James Drive, Hartland, WI 53029.
