Obit: Carol M. Behn (nee Mahr), 88, of West Bend

Dec. 12, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Carol M. Behn (nee Mahr), 88, of West Bend, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Kathy Hospice.

She was born on May 23, 1929 to the late Jay and Margaret (nee Amos) Mahr in Brooklyn NY. She graduated from Berkley Prep school in Brooklyn. Carol went on to attend Green Mountain College in Vermont. She was united in marriage to John C. Behn Jr.

In 1965, they moved to Chicago and had a cottage at Timmer’s Resort on Big Cedar Lake where she spent 50 happy summers. She raised her four children and two grandchildren.

Carol was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in West Bend. She enjoyed cooking, spending time at the cottage and at Timmer’s. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her three most important things were faith, family and food. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Those Carol leaves behind to cherish her memory include her four children, Peter (Gail) Behn of West Bend, Evelyn (Bradley) Simmons of Plano TX., Barbara (Joaquin Sanchez) Behn of Baltimore MD., and John “Jay” (Kelly) Behn of Arlington Heights IL.; nine grandchildren, Bryan (Melissa) Behn, Stephanie (Ryan) Laufer, Jennifer (Jim) Harper, Michael (Sally) Behn, Elisabeth (Patrick) Gettleman, Thomas (Adrienne) Behn, Christine (Kyle) Casetta, John “Johnny” Behn and Emily Behn; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Behn, Jake Behn, Maxwell Harper, Evan Behn, Josephine Behn, Isabella Casetta; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John C. Behn Jr., her brother, Jay Mahr; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Mahr and Barbara Mahr; and a nephew, Jay Bekeley Mahr.

A memorial service in remembrance of Carol will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 3 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 148 S. 8th Ave., West Bend.

The Behn family would like to thank Mary Immekus and Kathy Hospice for all their help and care.

Memorials to St. James Episcopal Church or Kathy Hospice in Carol’s name is appreciated by the family.
