According to Town Supervisor Troy Zagel, Heipp made a statement after the last election that if something happened to him Zagel was tabbed to replace him as chairman.

During the last Town Board meeting in June 2022 a discussion took place on filling Heipp’s seat.

“Supervisor Mark Wagor will make a motion at the next meeting that we follow through with the appointment of myself as chairman and then I will appoint a Town Supervisor to fill my seat until the next election,” said Zagel.  “We’re not going to have a special election.”

According to Zagel “quite a few people have inquired” about the open seat. “I’ve been talking to several of them, and I won’t make the names public until the night of the meeting,” he said.

The appointee, according to Zagel, “will be someone who has been involved in the town, been to meetings and involved.”

“I want someone who can step in know what is going on,” he said.

Zagel was first elected in April 2019. He is currently the senior member of the Town of West Bend Board.

The West Bend Town Board will meet Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. That’s a week later than normal because of the Tuesday, August 9, 2022, primary election.
